Maresha has a range of industry knowledge having previously taught in FE, worked in Sports Research, and coached in a vast range of sports settings.

Maresha has conducted research within a HE setting as well as worked with National Governing Bodies and Leisure Centres. Her research contribution has mainly focused on inclusivity in sport promoting accessibility for disability, ethnic minorities, women and girls and promoting physical activity engagement post-pandemic.

Maresha has experience coaching ages 2-98 years in a range of environments from multi-sports to martial arts.

Maresha set-up her own Taekwondo club in 2017 and has supported students through gradings/belt promotions and championships at Regional and National level. She has shadow coached the GB Taekwondo Junior Olympic Squad providing elite coaching insight into the principles of coaching on an international platform. As well as coaching regularly in Taekwondo she still actively coaches multi-sports in the community working with leisure centres.

Maresha completed her undergraduate degree at the ³ÉÈËBÕ¾ with a First Class Honours in Sports Coaching Science BSc and was awarded two dissertation awards: The Northam’s Prize for Best Independent Study and The Clive Read Dissertation Award for Outstanding Applied Research in Sports Coaching Science.   Maresha then successfully completed a Masters in Research in Socio-Cultural Studies in Sport and Exercise and a PGCE.

In addition to Maresha’s academic background and industry knowledge her passion for Sport and academia is what led to teaching. Maresha previously taught in FE. She has a passion for sharing knowledge and enjoys supporting students on their individual journeys within the sporting industry.

Outside of coaching, research and teaching Maresha competes Nationally and Internationally in Taekwondo in a range of disciplines: patterns, sparring and team events. Having been a sports scholar at the University herself she is passionate about supporting students in balancing their own responsibilities as student-athletes to promote long-lasting connections with active healthy lifestyles.
