Teaching Interests

Becka's teaching interests stem from her professional practice as a counsellor and previous career in teaching. Therefore she is usually involved in modules or teaching that are based around communication skills, work-based learning and developing self-awareness. She really enjoys developing students’ sense of understanding their own learning styles and how these can be activated within their course to their best advantage.

Becka is also the link tutor for the Counselling courses run by our partnership colleges at Iron Mill College in Exeter and Hereford and Ludlow College in Hereford.

Research Interests

Becka's main research interest explored in her Masters’ dissertation has been autonomy in counselling and the impact on the therapeutic relationship.

Becka has presented work on the student journey through a Level 5 work-based learning module and received a teaching team award in February 2020 for her involvement in this.

Becka has completed work on supporting the health and wellbeing of teachers, working collaboratively with colleagues in the Institute of Education (2023-2024).
