To complete the PG Cert in Advanced Social Work Practice you will need to complete all 4 mandatory modules.  However, if you only wish to complete the Practice Educator modules you can exit with a Postgraduate Award in Professional Development: Social Work Practice Education.

Our courses are informed by research and current developments in the discipline and by feedback from students, external examiners and employers. Modules do therefore change periodically in the interests of keeping the course relevant and reflecting best practice. The most up-to-date information will be available to you once you have accepted a place and registered for the course.  If there are insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, this might not be offered, but we will advise you as soon as possible and help you choose an alternative.

All modules can be studied as stand-alone modules. Please see the links below for more details.

"The course was a great opportunity to reflect on my own leadership style and to understand others. As a Social Worker who is more interested in values and strengths-based practice and not in corporate management theories or styles, I found this course very useful, in exploring strengths-based leadership in the context of Social Work. I am now more confident in owning my own leadership style which is compassionate leadership."

"I enjoyed the leadership course in that it helped me to reflect on my current leadership style and how I could use elements of other leadership styles depending on the situation I was dealing with. I particularly enjoyed learning about Lewin’s change model, which I utilise now within my practice. I also use the circles of control to manage my own thoughts and behaviours, as well as to support NQSW’s to think about what is within their control and what is not. Thank you for providing the course!"

"The Practice Leadership course was a great opportunity to get back into academic study, having had a break from studying for several years. It brought together a group of social workers with a varied background and wide range of experience and so it was a great opportunity to learn from each other. The course helped me to connect with social work values and theories and apply them to my current practice, with a specific focus on leadership. My practice was greatly enhanced as it updated my knowledge of strengths-based approaches which enables me to work creatively and empoweringly with the people we serve. The course was interactive and used a variety of teaching methods, online and face to face. I highly recommend it to any social worker who wishes to enhance their leadership skills within their current role."
