Our courses are informed by research and current developments in the discipline and feedback from students, external examiners and employers. Modules do therefore change periodically in the interests of keeping the course relevant and reflecting best practice. Teaching and assessment

Teaching and assessment

Animation at Worcester encompasses 2D traditional and digital animation, stop motion and claymation and 3D CGI for games, animation and film. Students also gain skills in editing, sound, compositing, concept art for games and animation, VFX techniques and creative concept generation.

The course thus aims to offer you the realistic prospect of graduating as a competent practitioner in all areas of this still developing discipline. Alongside placing strong emphasis on nurturing your practice as an animator, it supports you to gain solid, foundational understanding of relevant history and theory. It integrates live projects into year-long modules of study to enable you to experience real, studio-based production in support of your preparation for professional work.

Screenwriting nurtures your love of story and aims to develop your skills as a writer and media practitioner for the 21st century. It provides creative, challenging approaches to writing for the screen and performance from initial conception to production. You are taught by lecturers with both academic and professional, industry backgrounds who are well placed to offer you expert advice and to support your development of original writing.

The course provides you with many opportunities to network with industry contacts, supporting your developing understanding of how your writing skills are transferable to employment within the media industries.

In addition to developing your capabilities as an animator, this course will enable you to develop a wide range of transferable skills, from research and analysis techniques, to problem-solving, to communication and negotiation. Animators are increasingly in demand as the industry expands. Our interdisciplinary approach gives flexibility and will develop in you a wider view of the world that is both attractive to employers, and empowers you to create your own opportunities through creative entrepreneurship. You will find career opportunities not only in animation production, but also in the games industry, television motion graphics, compositing, special effects and advertising.

The opportunity to be introduced to current industry contacts in Screenwriting is an essential element of the progression of your work across the three years, giving you a unique insight into how your skills can transfer into employment within the media industry. There are many career path options including working in the digital arts industries, in film and television and arts organisations, and taking up university and school teaching or postgraduate academic and creative writing courses.

Costs

Fees and funding

Full-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

The Government has announced that it will increase tuition fees and maintenance loans by 3.1% from the 2025/26 academic cycle. Subject to approval, the University intends to increase our tuition fees in line with this and as per our terms and conditions. This means that from September 2025 the standard fee for full-time home and EU undergraduate students enrolling on BA/BSc/LLB degrees and FdA/FdSc degrees will be £9,535 per year.

The standard tuition fee for full-time international students enrolling on BA/BSc/LLB degrees and FdA/FdSc degrees in the 2025/26 academic year is £16,700 per year.

Part-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

Subject to approval, the University intends to increase our tuition fees in line with this and as per our terms and conditions. This means that from September 2025 the tuition fees for part-time UK and EU students on BA/BSc/LLB degrees and FdA/FdSc degrees will be £1,190.83 per 15-credit module, £1,587.77 per 20-credit module, £2,381.66 per 30-credit module, £3,175.55 per 40-credit module, £3,572.50 per 45-credit module and £4,763.32 per 60 credit module.

We have over 1,000 rooms across our range of student halls. With rooms to suit every budget and need, from our 'Traditional Halls' at £131 per week to 'Ensuite Premium Halls' at £228 per week (2025/26 prices).
